![]() When I got my black belt, one of the requirements was to master the art of meditation....in fact for 6 hours straight. Meditation is something you practice daily to sharpen and focus your mind. Just simply meditating for a few minutes each day can center your goals. Check out this funny clip on the art of meditation. This is your new blog post. I love kickboxing and boxing, nothing gets your blood pumping more than the conditioning involved in the Martial Arts. Exercise will help to you to preform better at work, sleep better, look and feel a whole lot younger. This week I focused on technique with the focus mitts....working in partners for 3 -5 min rounds. One partner will preform the combination, whilst the other is holding the pads. One thing to note, good pad holding will build good technique....most times when I hold the pads, I am working up just as much of a sweat as the slugger hitting them. When holding the pads, this is your opportunity to focus on defensive movement, view the angles and give the striker a clear line to the target. DO NOT hold the pads really far apart, like a two headed hydra....move with the pads by turning the torso and giving the striker good angles. Work slowly with the movements and depending on where the combination is intended to go simulate this with the appropriate levels with the focus mitts...body, head, kidneys, liver, legs....at the same time keeping the focus pad holder away from getting accidentally pounded. Each punch is assigned to a number 1 = Jab, 2 = Cross, 3 = Hook (left or right depending on the flow of the combination), 4 = Uppercut. Warm up with about 5 - 10 of skipping (1 - 2 songs), stretch. Combinations To Train (Break it down in three parts) each partner has 5 min on mitts, and 5 min striking. In between rounds - 10 Burpees - 20 Push Ups - 20 Bicycle Crunches - 10 Jump Squats.
This should last about an hour, and help to build the fundimentals....its always best to do this in a class setting. If your interested in doing this work out with me feel free to contact me for training dates and locations. Some amazing fights from this past Saturday's UFC 145 Main event featuring Jon "Bones" Jones against "Sugar" Rashad Evans. Check out the post fight interview below Its going to be some crazy fights tomorrow night and I am looking forward to watching them all. I will put myself out on limb here and say that I think the Jones - Rashad saga will go the distance...as I think both of these fighters will look to methodically look to exploit each others weakness and capitalize on it, but there will be feeling out process. I have Jones taking this fight with an advantage with his unpredictable style and it will be an all around MMA battle transitioning through all disciplines of MMA. There could be a knockout as well....only time will tell. Simple words of advice for anyone looking to pursue their interests and passion. GSP speaks about the constant quest for knowledge and personal growth that comes with expanding his mind. Seeking out the experience of an expert is also a huge game changer....in training, in life and your business. De-centralized training and be willing to put in the time to master your craft. We can learn allot from the current Welter Weight Champion....the lesson here is that everything takes time to master, and the minute you think you know it all the game will change and your setting yourself up for failure. Enjoy the clip. |
