Aikido is a martial arts discipline for educating the mind, body and spirit...

Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (known by his honorary title O Sensei or 'Great Teacher" is a Japanese martial art).  It is a modern Japanese martial art based on traditional Japanese fighting techniques.  It is a Japanese martial art created by Morihei Ueshiba during the mid 1900s.  It is an effective, yet non-violent, traditional Japanese martial art.

Aikido is a 100% defensive martial art.  It is a non-competitive, non-violent, and non-aggressive martial art based on cultivating a cooperative spirit.  It is a dynamic martial art based on harmony and reconciliation.  It is many things, but I would characterize it more as a study of harmony than a martial art.

Aikido is excellent for children because it a non-violent martial art, it does not promote aggressive behavior.  It is a challenging martial art to practice and learn.  It is an effective martial art, allowing students to learn to defend themselves in threatening situations by using real-life conditions.  It is a martial art, and as such, a fundamental requirement is that it works as a self-defense system.

Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense.  It is the required methods of self defense used by the Japanese police today.  It is different from other forms of self defense in that the motions are circular rather than linear.  It is unlike other martial arts.

Aikido is a martial arts discipline for educating the mind, body and spirit.  It is one of what's called the internal martial arts.  It is effective against all arts.  It is based primarily on  Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu , taught to Ueshiba by Sokaku Takeda.

Aikido is an excellent martial art for all ages and skill levels.  It is most clearly described as a grappling art, which involves throwing people, pinning them and applying joint locks.  It is a defensive art that does not emphasize strikes.  It is not about technique, but principle.

Aikido is perfect for men, women, teens & children regardless of physical condition or experience.  acher').   O Sensei believed that the true spirit of ‘Budo’ (the way of martial arts) was to be found not in a competitive and combative atmosphere dominated by brute strength, but in the quest for perfection through dedicated training of mind and body.

His goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury.

On a purely physical level it is an art involving some throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and some throws and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu.  Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you.

Aikido is a martial arts discipline for educating the mind, body and spirit.   The Aikido dojo is a place to reveal a way of discipline and to continuously refine the physical and spiritual growth of the individual.

Ueshiba O Sensei was a man of extraordinary love and compassion who created Aikido as a vehicle to awaken humanity to its true nature, which is love.  He believed in the oneness of all creation, that all beings are born from Kami (spirit), and, that we are each responsible for our collective destiny.

Training in Aikido provides children with  self-confidence  in several aspects: the ability to deal with stressful situations while remaining  calm and collected , the ability to  empathize with others , and the ability to  defend themselves  from physical aggression.  Training in Aikido is learning to challenge yourself and not your opponent.

Learning to respond positively to the negative energies of  conflict and achieving harmony will elevate your consciousness above selfish ego and bring you closer to harmony with the universal consciousness.Aikido includes many responses to different types of attacks including throws, holds, joint locks, pins, and disarming techniques.  Aikido is available to almost anyone who wants to learn it.  Aikido students are encouraged to progress at a comfortable rate they define for themselves.

Aikido techniques attempt to use an attacker's momentum against the attacker.  Aikido was introduced in Japan in 1925 by Morihei Uyeshiba.  Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art based on traditional Japanese fighting techniques.

UFC 159: Jones vs Sonnen Extended Preview

After trading words for months,UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones and perennial contender Chael Sonnen finally get to trade blows at UFC 159. Plus, Michael Bisping and Alan Belcher meet in a matchup of brash middlewieght strikers.

I can't wait to see what kind of game plan Jones has for Chael's wrestling ability and overall toughness....I do think that Chael is outclassed on the feet, but if he can get Jones to the ground and maintain a good position and not get Triangle choked, he has a chance at winning the fight.

The other fight that is very interesting is the Alan Belcher & Micheal Bisping fight...both of these guys are coming off losses, and can get themselves back into contendership with a string of wins....the trash talk between these guys is getting pretty epic...with videos going back and forth.   Check out the preview for the big show on April 27.    You can check out the stats below for the two main fights.

MMA H.E.A.T.'s Karyn Bryant talks with former Strikeforce Middleweight Champ Luke Rockhold about his upcoming fight with Vitor Belfort, set to take place as the main event at UFC on FX 8 on May 18, 2013 in Brazil. Luke lets us know why he likes the match-up, why he believes he can defeat Belfort and his response when people say Strikeforce fighters haven't faced tough competition. In addition, Luke lets us know how he feels about being one of the female MMA fans' favorites.

With a Name like Luke Rockhold he has the makings of a movie star...almost sounds like a name out of Anchorman 2.    Check out the video below with a highlight reel, and his thoughts on a possible showdown with Anderson Silva.
