It has been widely accepted that with every endeavour you take in life, its up to you to chart the course to your destination through the decisions that you make. Decisions are like muscles, the more we make the stronger we get. These decisions are the mechanics of our goals, to reach the emotion of achieving our dreams. We have all dreamed as children, but sometimes as adults we lose that ability and tend to accept the ordinary rather than something extrodinary. We are a product of our past, but we don't need to be a prisioner to it.
Why do we need a Dream? For many people, a dream gives them hope. When we have a dream, we are “hoping” for something. This hope then becomes fuel for desire, and desire drives us. However, does desire drive us to achieve our dreams? No. In truth, desire eventually brings about discipline that causes us to make the necessary adjustments in our life to fulfill the dream.
What are some of your dreams? Have you had an unrealized dream for a long time? Remember, the amount of discipline that you are willing to apply to your life, not desire, determines your destiny.
A dream gives us a DESTINATION, or someplace to go. A process or journey is required to reach the dream – our “destination”. Its during this journey that we are given the opportunity to grow. When we have unrealized dreams, its not because we have failed. It’s not because the world is against us, even though it seems that way at times.
It may be simply because we did not learn how to discipline ourselves or accept the need to grow. No one likes the word “change”. How many times have we heard someone say, “Don’t try to change me?” This comes from a natural desire to not be controlled. However, when we refuse to face some needed change in our lives, we are allowing ourselves to be controlled by our environment. One reason this happens is because our main focus is on the dream, without the understanding that we might need to focus on changing a few things or habits, that are preventing us from achieving our dreams.
Many people try something several times only to be continually disappointed by the outcome. This disappointment can actually cause them to give up on realizing their dream, thinking it is unobtainable. When we realize our dream is a destination and we see the journey as an opportunity to grow, we are able to accept the necessary change that must take place in order for us to reach our destination.
We must be willing to WORK, and most people are. However, many people become frustrated because they don’t feel their work is accomplishing anything. People have a natural desire to connect with a purpose of some type. How do we work? We work either hard or smart. How often have you heard someone say, “I work smart, not hard?” We should work smart AND hard, but working smart is really just figuring out how to work effectively.
